Chapter 1 Adoption
There were sounds of heavy rain and thunder at 3 in the morning.
In a desolated suburban area was a dance hall, it was muddy and dirty, but it was still operating. One dirty show after another was played on the stage.
Aubree was six years old, she hid in a dark corner of the dance hall and she stared at the middle of the stage with fear. She held her breath and didn't dare to move even an inch.
Her mother visited the dance hall once in a while. She drank too much today again.
She didn't understand why her mother was surrounded by a bunch of dirty men. She didn't know what they were doing to her mom and didn't understand why her mother was wearing an agonizing expression. Miserable screams could be heard from the stage and every scream was so sharp, Aubree felt like her heart was slashed by it like a sharp knife. She was trembling in shock and fear.
Aubree could also hear slapping sounds.
The men were slapping her mother non-stop and were laughing horrifyingly. The audience sitting in the house were getting excited, some even took off their clothes and were yelling at the people on the stage to go faster.
Aubree didn't dare to blink the whole time. Tears started to well up in her eyes and she clenched her small hand tightly.
Time was passing by very slowly. The lights were still illuminating the stage brightly and all of a sudden, the woman on stage wasn't screaming anymore.
The men on stage held out their hand and put it under the woman's nose. They were shocked. They quickly pushed the woman's body away and ran away with the speed of light.
Aubree could finally see everything clearly. Her mother's dress was torn apart and her hair was a mess. She was covered with beer all over her body and her white dress slowly turned rogue.
Aubree couldn't control herself anymore. She moved her stiff body and walked through the crowd, and stood next to her mother.
She was in a panic and despair, she was almost at the verge of falling apart.
At this moment, she felt like everything was slowly turning black.
…
At the police station.
Officer Khan felt bad for the six years old girl before his eyes. She was more obedient than an average child, but she lost her parents at such a young age. She was also an unregistered child from an unregistered household.
Aubree was at the police station for three days now. The police officers didn't know what to do with her.
The girl never had a father and her mother was raped violently to death a few days ago at the dance hall. The higher-ups instructed them to send the girl to an orphanage, but the police officers who took care of Aubree for the past few days didn't have the heart to do that. They delayed the procedure again and again.
"Officer Khan, there's someone who would like to adopt Aubree Wilson. They seemed to be foreigners and are rather well-off," said the intern Kobi Bradley. Officer Khan stared at his gossipy subordinate and they looked simultaneously at Aubree who was eating her food obediently. They were happy for her.
"It doesn't matter who they are. The only thing that matters is that they are nice people and will take good care of Aubree." A few people walked into the room the moment Officer Khan finished his sentence. The person had good posture, but he was expressionless. His indifferent temperament filled up the room. He was cold yet elegant and people couldn't take their eyes off him even though they were afraid of his sharp and frigid gaze.
Everyone at the scene was startled by his strong temperament and the room became quiet.
He locked his gaze at the right side of the room, at the girl who was slowly eating her food. He then sauntered towards her.
Aubree put down her spoon and her doll-like face was filled with fear. She looked up and looked like a deer in headlights. She was stunned as she looked at the stunning-looking man sauntering towards her. He was still expressionless, but he didn't feel indifferent this time.
He held out his hand and she stared at his hand. She had a faraway look in her eyes.
A frigid voice then rang across the room.
"Would you like to come with me?"
